A Tribute to the late Bill Avery

Bill from Tewkesbury was a good friend to our Mop Fair and the Fair Society. Bill was better known for his work with Tewkesbury’s British Legion and Y.M.C.A. Over the years Bill and his family got to know many showmen like the Hatwell’s, Brewer’s and the Danter family’s and took many photo’s of the Mop and local steam rallies, many in black and white and some early colour ones.

Bill gave his photo collection to the society some years ago and is in safe keeping and will soon be transposed to disc. These photo’s are of Fairground rides, traction engines and family photo’s taken with old show people who attended Tewkesbury Mop and others.

Bill will be remembered by the society for his love of the Mop Fair and his work in the Town of Tewkesbury.

The society’s president Pete Aldridge and our sergeant in arms Phil South attended the funeral on behalf of the society early this year.

Our condolences go out to his wife and large family, knowing that his photo collection is in the safe hands of the society where it will be known as “The Bill Avery Collection”
